Cherokee County elevation and terrain tools
Mountains • County seat: Murphy
Cherokee County is the far western tip of the state, where the Hiwassee and Valley rivers meet at Murphy below the Snowbird Mountains and the Unicoi Mountains on the Tennessee line. Hiwassee Lake fills the river gorge west of town, and the ridges of the Nantahala National Forest close in on every side.
