Buncombe County elevation and terrain tools
Mountains • County seat: Asheville
Buncombe County centers on the broad basin of the French Broad River around Asheville, where the Swannanoa River joins it from the east. The Great Craggy Mountains and the Black Mountains wall the basin on the northeast, the Blue Ridge crest runs along its eastern and southern rim from the Swannanoa Gap to Mount Pisgah, and the French Broad leaves north through a narrowing gorge toward Madison.
